The art of nursing expressed in poetry

Abstract:
Writing is an essential skill for professional nurses. During their education, nursing students are required to produce a variety of written assignments, but most of these are regimented, such as care plans and term papers. There is little opportunity for students to express their creative side. Because all writing experiences are useful for student growth, this project in writing poetry was developed to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their clinical experience in home health nursing and to document the contribution of clinical experience to their affective domain.
