Summary

Intravitreal rituximab at 1 mg showed no ocular toxicity in rabbit models and human patients with intraocular lymphoma. This suggests rituximab is a potentially safe treatment for ocular conditions.

Background:

Intraocular lymphoma is a rare malignancy requiring effective treatment.
Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody, has shown efficacy in systemic lymphomas.

Observation:

A study evaluated the safety of 1 mg intravitreal rituximab in rabbits and human patients.
Rabbit eyes and human eyes with intraocular lymphoma were treated and monitored.

Findings:

No light microscopic evidence of ocular toxicity was observed in rabbit eyes one month post-injection.
Human eyes treated with intravitreal rituximab showed no intraocular toxicity during a median follow-up of 3.6 months.

Implications:

Intravitreal rituximab at 1 mg appears to be a safe therapeutic option for intraocular lymphoma.
