  • Systematic evaluation of atrial situs (solitus, inversus, isomerism).
  • Detailed assessment of atrioventricular (AVC) and ventriculoarterial connections (VAC), alongside associated anomalies.
  • Main Results:

    • Situs solitus (SS) observed in 91% of specimens, inversus (SI) in 6%, and isomerism in 3%.
    • Biventricular AVC occurred in 89 cases (90% concordant). Univentricular AVC identified in 11 cases, including various forms of atresia and double inlet ventricles.
    • Ventriculoarterial connections (VAC) analysis revealed diverse patterns in SS, SI, and isomerism, including discordant connections, double outlet right ventricle (DORV), and single outlet configurations. Common associated anomalies included atrial septal defects (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PAD), and ventricular septal defects (VSD).

    Conclusions:

    • Sequential Segmental Analysis (SSA) is an effective and accurate tool for diagnosing and codifying congenital heart diseases.
    • SSA provides a clear and complete method for describing complex cardiac anatomy.
    • Normal SSA findings should be termed "Normal Basic Heart Organization," followed by descriptions of any associated anomalies.
