Summary

Alveolar distraction osteogenesis (DO) shows a high implant survival rate of 97%. Further research is needed to optimize treatment duration and outcomes for distracted alveolar ridges.

  • Evaluation of implant placement, follow-up duration, and survival rates.

    • A total of 469 implants were placed with a 97% survival rate after an average follow-up of 14.19 months.
    • Mean latency period: 7.26 days, distraction rate: 0.71 mm/day, augmentation rate: 6.88 mm.
    • Longer consolidation periods were significantly associated with successful implant outcomes (P=0.01).

    Conclusions:

    • Alveolar DO demonstrates a high success rate for dental implant placement in augmented bone.
    • The consolidation period appears critical for successful implant integration.
    • Further studies are required to optimize treatment protocols and long-term efficacy of alveolar DO.
