Summary

Construction safety interventions show mixed results. While regulations did not reduce injuries, safety campaigns and drug-free workplace programs effectively decreased non-fatal injuries in construction workers.

  • Five interrupted time series studies were included, evaluating regulations, safety campaigns, and drug-free workplace programs.
  • Regulatory interventions showed no significant effect on fatal or non-fatal injuries.
  • Safety campaigns and drug-free workplace programs demonstrated effectiveness in reducing non-fatal injuries.

Conclusions:

  • Many recommended safety interventions lack adequate evaluation.
  • No evidence supports the effectiveness of regulations for reducing construction injuries.
  • Limited evidence suggests safety campaigns and drug-free programs can reduce non-fatal injuries.
