Background:

  • A patient underwent a wedge resection for lung adenocarcinoma (pT2N0M0, R0) in February 2001.
  • The patient had significant emphysema, necessitating the use of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) for staple line reinforcement.

Observation:

  • During follow-up, a suspicious image suggested a potential tumoral relapse.
  • The patient was re-operated on in January 2005.

Findings:

  • Histopathological analysis of the resected tissue revealed extrinsic material consistent with the ePTFE used during the initial surgery.
  • The findings suggest a possible association between the staple line reinforcement material and the observed tumoral relapse.
