- Out of 442 children, 325 (74%) had intractable epilepsy.
- Factors associated with intractable epilepsy included male gender, infantile seizure onset, pre-treatment seizures, myoclonic and neonatal seizures, abnormal EEG, cryptogenic epilepsy, and head trauma.
- Favorable prognosis was linked to seizure onset between 5-7 years, idiopathic epilepsy, and absence seizures.
Conclusions:
- Intractable childhood epilepsy can be anticipated based on specific risk factors including epilepsy type, age of onset, gender, and etiology.
- Early referral to specialized centers is recommended for prompt and optimal management of high-risk children.
