Summary

Orthopaedic training programs worldwide show significant variation in structure, duration, and environment. Regular review and restructuring are essential to keep pace with advancements in orthopaedics for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Background:

Orthopaedic training programs require periodic review and restructuring to incorporate advancements in the field.
Many existing orthopaedic training programs have remained unchanged for decades, with limited global comparative data available.
There is a need to understand the current landscape of global orthopaedic training.

Purpose of the Study:

To gather and compare information on orthopaedic training programs across various countries.
To identify variations in training structures, duration, and environments globally.

Main Methods:

A survey questionnaire was distributed to orthopaedic trainees and trainers in G8 countries and the ten most populous nations.
Responses were collected and tabulated for comprehensive analysis.

Significant variations were observed in the structure of orthopaedic training programs worldwide.
Differences in the duration of training and the training environment were also evident across countries.

Conclusions:

Continuous monitoring of global orthopaedic training programs is necessary to adapt to evolving medical knowledge and practices.
Standardizing or improving training programs can mutually benefit trainees, trainers, and patient populations globally.
