Summary

A rare enteric muco-submucosal elongated polyp (EMSEP) was found in the jejunum and successfully removed via endoscopic polypectomy. Further research is needed to understand EMSEP and its relation to colonic counterparts.

Background:

  • Colonic muco-submucosal elongated polyps (CMSEP) are rare, long, and slender lesions.
  • Similar lesions outside the colon are exceptionally uncommon.

Observation:

  • A case of enteric muco-submucosal elongated polyp (EMSEP) was identified in the jejunum.
  • The EMSEP was determined to be the source of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Findings:

  • Endoscopic polypectomy using double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) was performed to remove the bleeding EMSEP.
  • Histological examination of the resected specimen showed features consistent with CMSEP.

Implications:

  • Advancements in enteroscopy may increase the detection rate of EMSEPs.
  • Further investigation is required to elucidate the similarities and differences between CMSEPs and EMSEPs.
