To identify workflow inefficiencies in hospital settings that can be mitigated by technology.
To explore the potential of technology to improve nurse retention and patient care delivery.
To provide evidence-based recommendations for technology deployment in nursing.

Main Methods:

The Technology Drill Down process was developed and tested by the American Academy of Nursing Workforce Commission.
The study involved over 200 medical-surgical patient care units.
Workflow inefficiencies were analyzed to determine technology-based solutions.

The Technology Drill Down process successfully identified key workflow inefficiencies.
Findings highlight the need for smart, portable, and interoperable point-of-care technology solutions.
