Summary

Cutaneous leishmaniasis can manifest in diverse clinical forms. A rare rhinophyma-like plaque presentation on the nose and upper lip was successfully treated with antimonials.

  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) presents a broad clinical spectrum, frequently affecting the face.
  • The nasal region is a common site for CL, exhibiting various morphologies like plaques and nodules.

  • A case of an elderly male patient with a large, infiltrated plaque resembling rhinophyma on the nose and upper lip is described.
  • The lesion's appearance mimicked rhinophyma, a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting the nose.

Findings:

  • Diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis was confirmed by identifying leishmania parasites in a skin smear.
  • This case highlights a novel rhinophyma-like morphological presentation of CL.
