[Treatment of abdominal hernias by cellular endoprosthesis]

Abdominal hernias are the most common conditions requiring surgery. The objectives of abdominal hernial repair are to minimize recurrence of the disease. The prosthetic hernioplasty, which was introduced by Stoppa and Rives, became one of the widely accepted. Long-term results of the surgical treatment using new modification of Rives-Stoppa technique were presented. The medical records were reviewed of 143 patients who underwent hernial repair. The decrease of complications such as infections, seromas, and hematomas, and tissue inflammation were reported. This technique is safe with a low risk of complications and a low rate of recurrence.
