[A case of retroperitoneal neurofibroma successfully resected laparoscopically]

A 30-year-old woman, who had a type I neurofibromatosis, visited our hospital with a complaint of left flank pain. Computed tomography revealed a heterogenous solid mass, 12 x 7 x 6 cm in diameter, in the anterior renal region, which was suspected to be a benign retroperitoneal tumor. We performed laparoscopic resection of the tumor because of persisting left flank pain. Pathological diagnosis of the surgical specimen was neurofibroma. The postoperative course was uneventful. The diagnosis and laparoscopic management of retroperitoneal neurofibroma are discussed.
