Isolated renal hydatid cyst managed by laparoscopic transperitoneal nephrectomy.

Background:

• Hydatid disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is a rare cyclozoonotic parasitic infestation.
• Isolated renal involvement is exceptionally uncommon, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

• A 45-year-old female farmer presented with abdominal pain and hydatiduria.
• Abdominal ultrasonography and CT scan revealed a hydatid cyst originating from the right kidney.

Findings:

• Surgical removal of the isolated right renal hydatid cyst was performed using a laparoscopic transperitoneal nephrectomy.
• Microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of a hydatid cyst.

Implications:

• The transperitoneal laparoscopic approach provided excellent visualization and working space, facilitating complete cyst removal.
• This technique helped maintain the integrity of Gerota's fascia, minimizing the risk of cyst rupture and spillage.
