Tumor Immunotherapy01:27

Tumor Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a treatment that boosts or manipulates the immune system to fight diseases, including cancer. For instance, by stimulating an immune response through vaccinations against viruses that cause cancers, like hepatitis B virus and human papillomavirus, these diseases can be prevented. Nonetheless, some cancer cells can avoid the immune system due to their rapid mutation and division. The immune response to many cancers involves three phases: elimination, equilibrium, and escape.
Targeted Cancer Therapies02:57

Targeted Cancer Therapies

The targeted cancer therapies, also known as “molecular targeted therapies,” take advantage of the molecular and genetic differences between the cancer cells and the normal cells. It needs a thorough understanding of the cancer cells to develop drugs that can target specific molecular aspects that drive the growth, progression, and spread of cancer cells without affecting the growth and survival of other normal cells in the body.
There are several types of targeted therapies against specific...

Background:

  • Cancer therapy increasingly focuses on inhibiting angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels essential for tumor growth.
  • Antibody-based vascular tumor targeting leverages tumors' dependence on neovasculature for selective drug delivery.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review suitable angiogenesis markers for antibody-based vascular targeting.
  • To describe transcriptomic and proteomic methods for discovering new vascular tumor markers.
  • To discuss antibody-based vascular targeting strategies for cancer imaging and therapy.

Main Methods:

  • Selection of well-characterized angiogenesis markers.
  • Application of transcriptomic and proteomic methodologies for marker discovery.
  • Review of existing antibody-based vascular targeting strategies.

Main Results:

  • Several angiogenesis markers are suitable targets for antibody-based vascular targeting.
  • Transcriptomic and proteomic approaches can identify novel vascular tumor markers.
  • Antibody-based strategies are progressing in preclinical and clinical cancer studies.

Conclusions:

  • Antibody-based vascular tumor targeting is a promising strategy for selective cancer therapy and imaging.
  • Targeting tumor vasculature offers a more selective and better-tolerated approach to cancer treatment.
  • Continued research into novel markers and targeting strategies will advance oncological applications.
