Peritoneal dialysis (PD) technique failure is highest early in treatment, decreasing over time. Key risk factors for PD discontinuation include age, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and declining residual glomerular filtration rate (rGFR).

- Risk factors were identified by comparing patients who switched to HD versus those who continued PD.

- Technique survival rates at 1, 2, and 3 years were 87%, 76%, and 66%, respectively.

- Transplantation is a primary reason for PD cessation in The Netherlands.
