Natural background dose measurements in south Cameroon

Natural radioactivity from potassium-40 (40K), radium-226 (226Ra), and thorium-232 (232Th) was measured in Lolodorf, Cameroon. Results indicate relatively high radioactivity levels in the soil and rock samples from the area.

- Average outdoor absorbed dose rates: 218 ± 61 nGy h⁻¹ (Ngombas) and 250 ± 97 nGy h⁻¹ (Bikoue).
- Annual effective dose rates: 0.267 mSv y⁻¹ (Ngombas) and 0.307 mSv y⁻¹ (Bikoue).
Conclusions:
- The radioactivity levels in the studied area of Lolodorf, Cameroon, are relatively high.
- The measured doses suggest a potentially elevated radiation environment.
- Further investigation into the sources and implications of this radioactivity is warranted.
