HB-EGF function in cardiac valve development requires interaction with heparan sulfate proteoglycans

Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) are essential for Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) to suppress mesenchymal cell proliferation during cardiac valve development. Disrupting this interaction leads to enlarged valves and hyperproliferation.
