Summary

Sentinel node biopsy is a standard breast cancer staging procedure. In a rare case, it was feasible for a second ipsilateral recurrence after prior breast surgeries and radiotherapy.

Background:

  • Sentinel node (SN) biopsy is a standard procedure for breast cancer staging.
  • Previous treatments included radiotherapy, mammectomy, axillary dissection, and mammoplasty.
  • The patient presented with a rare second ipsilateral subcutaneous recurrence.

Observation:

  • Lymphoscintigraphy was performed to identify sentinel nodes.
  • Two axillary radioactive sentinel nodes were identified.
  • These nodes were surgically removed.

Findings:

  • Final histology confirmed no lymph node involvement in the removed sentinel nodes.
  • The procedure demonstrated the technical feasibility of sentinel node biopsy in this complex case.
