Abstract:
Ceramic implants are manufactured from aluminium oxide ceramics (Al2O3) doped with magnesium oxide (MgO). The yellow or brown discoloration following gamma-sterilization does not constitute a material defect, but rather a property of the material. This chromic effect is explained in the following article.
