Abstract:
The sarcolemmal Na(+)-Ca(2+) exchanger is the dominant myocardial Ca(2+) efflux mechanism and has a central role in the regulation of contractility. Physiologic and molecular advances in Na(+)-Ca(2+) exchange research have led a resurgence of interest in this system. Molecular cloning of the exchanger has recently been accomplished, and information on the molecular structure and reaction mechanism is forthcoming.
