[Haemangiopericytoma in the hypopharynx]

This article describes an unusual case of acute upper airway obstruction. A 69-year-old man was brought to the emergency room with what was initially thought to be angioedema of the throat. However, later examination revealed a haemangiopericytoma in the hypopharynx. The tumour was removed surgically, and the patient discharged for follow-up. Haemangiopericytomas rarely occur in the ear-nose-throat region. They are usually not malignant, and their symptoms are generally a consequence of cavity filling. Haemangiocytomas of the hypopharynx are extremely rare.
