Autonomously functioning thyroid adenoma (AFTA) tissue shows increased conversion of thyroxine (T4) to triiodothyronine (T3). This heightened T4 to T3 conversion in AFTA may elevate serum T3 levels and suppress thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
