    Background:

    • Understanding the link between performance tests and athletic activity is crucial for rehabilitation specialists.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify relationships between specific upper body strength and power tests and softball throw distance.
    • To determine the best predictor(s) of performance in a sport-specific task, the softball throw for distance.

    Main Methods:

    • One hundred eighty participants (111 female, 69 male, aged 18-45) completed five upper extremity tests.
    • Pearson product moment correlation and stepwise regression analyses were employed to assess relationships and predictive power.

    Main Results:

    • Significant correlations (r=.33 to .70, p<0.001) were found between all tested upper extremity performance measures.
    • The modified pull-up test emerged as the strongest predictor of softball throw distance, explaining 48.7% of performance variation.
    • Including weight, height, and age further improved the predictive accuracy of the model.

    Conclusions:

    • Multiple upper extremity tests show significant correlations with each other and with softball throw performance.
    • The modified pull-up test is identified as the most effective predictor for softball throw distance, offering valuable insights for athletic assessment.
