Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Surgical Gynecology

Background:

  • Caesarean scar pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy.
  • It occurs when a pregnancy implants within the scar from a previous Caesarean section.
  • This condition can lead to significant maternal morbidity.

Observation:

  • Two cases of Caesarean scar pregnancy managed surgically are presented.
  • Case 1: A 33-year-old woman at 21 weeks gestation with rupture, placenta percreta, and hemorrhage requiring hysterectomy.
  • Case 2: A 30-year-old woman with spotting, diagnosed via ultrasound and laparoscopy, treated with excision of the gestational sac.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention is effective for Caesarean scar pregnancy.
  • Rupture and placenta percreta are severe potential complications.

  • Laparoscopy and laparotomy are viable surgical approaches.
  • Implications:

    • Early diagnosis of Caesarean scar pregnancy is vital for timely intervention.
    • Prompt treatment can avert life-threatening hemorrhage and preserve fertility.
    • This case report highlights the importance of considering scar pregnancy in women with relevant symptoms.
