Summary

Acupuncture points Futu (LI 18), Hegu (LI 4), and Neiguan (PC6) share overlapping nerve pathways with the thyroid gland in rats. Acupuncture stimulation also increases connexin 43 expression in these acupoint regions.

Bifurcate innervation was observed, indicating DRG neurons innervate both acupoints and the thyroid gland.

Immunohistochemistry showed significantly upregulated cutaneous connexin 43 expression in acupoint regions (LI18, PC6, LI4, ST36) after acupuncture stimulation.
