Summary

The Rives-Stoppa procedure is the preferred method for incisional hernioplasty, significantly reducing recurrence rates and complications when specific modifications are applied. This technique offers excellent outcomes for patients undergoing hernia repair.

Overall recurrence rate was 3.9% (11/283).
Complications included infections (4.6%) and seroma/hematoma (2.4%).
The Rives-Stoppa group showed a significantly lower recurrence rate (0.48%).

Conclusions:

The Rives-Stoppa procedure is the treatment of choice for incisional hernioplasty.
Simple modifications and infection prevention yield excellent recurrence and morbidity rates.
Optimized Rives-Stoppa technique significantly improves incisional hernia repair outcomes.
