Summary

Delayed cochlear implantation (CI) after surgical labyrinthectomy is a viable option for hearing rehabilitation. This case study shows successful CI outcomes even 21 years post-labyrinthectomy, improving patient quality of life.

Observation:

  • A 59-year-old patient with bilateral surgical labyrinthectomies 21 years prior presented for CI.
  • The patient had intractable Ménière's disease.
  • A significant delay existed between labyrinthectomy and the CI procedure.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent successful cochlear implantation despite the 21-year delay.
  • Good audiological outcomes were achieved post-implantation.
