Summary
A primitive neuroectodermal tumor was diagnosed in a squirrel monkey
Area of Science:

Background:
- A captive-bred squirrel monkey presented with exophthalmos.
- Surgical enucleation revealed a retrobulbar tumor mass.
Observation:
- The tumor adhered to the sclera and infiltrated the choroid.
- Histopathology revealed pleomorphic cells mimicking primitive neuroectodermal cells.
Findings:
- Immunohistochemistry confirmed tumor cells positive for neuronal precursor markers.
- Markers for mature cells and retinoblastoma were negative.
Implications:
- This is the first reported case of a retrobulbar primitive neuroectodermal tumor in non-human primates.
- Contributes to understanding rare tumors in non-human primates.
