Summary
Loin pain hematuria is a chronic condition with no effective treatments. This case study shows hypnotherapy significantly reduced pain, anxiety, and depression in a teenage patient with this condition.
Area of Science:
- Nephrology
- Pain Medicine
- Psychosomatic Medicine
Background:
- Loin pain hematuria (LPH) presents with chronic loin pain, hematuria, and dysuria.
- Current treatments for LPH, including analgesics and surgery, are often ineffective or have adverse effects.
- No established effective treatments exist for LPH.
Observation:
- A 17-year-old female with LPH experienced uncontrolled unilateral loin pain despite various medical interventions.
- The patient underwent 8 sessions of hypnotherapy.
- Standardized questionnaires assessed pain, anxiety, and depression before, during, and after hypnotherapy.
Findings:
- Hypnotherapy led to clinically significant reductions in pain, anxiety, and depression.
- The patient experienced near-complete remission of LPH symptoms.
- Improvements were sustained at follow-up.
Implications:
- Hypnotherapy may be a viable non-pharmacological treatment option for loin pain hematuria.
- This approach could offer an alternative for patients unresponsive to conventional therapies.
- Further research into hypnotherapy for LPH is warranted.
