    Summary

This case report details the successful reconstruction of a traumatically amputated tongue using a modified Z-plasty technique. The procedure effectively restored tongue function for speech, mastication, and swallowing.

    Area of Science:

    • Plastic Surgery
    • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
    • Reconstructive Surgery

    Background:

    • The tongue is crucial for speech, mastication, and deglutition.
    • Traumatic avulsion impairs tongue function due to limited range of motion.

    Observation:

    • A case report of a traumatically amputated tongue requiring reconstruction.
    • The patient's tongue function was significantly impaired.

    Findings:

    • A modified Z-plasty technique, specifically multiple series Z-plasty, was employed for tongue reconstruction.
    • This surgical approach successfully restored the tongue's functional capabilities.

    Implications:

    • Multiple series Z-plasty is an effective modification for tongue frenectomy and reconstruction.
