FDG PET/CT predictive role in follicular lymphoma

End-treatment (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) is a highly accurate predictor of progression-free survival (PFS) and patient outcomes in follicular lymphoma (FL). A positive FDG PET scan indicates a poorer prognosis, especially for patients with multiple relapses.

Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the predictive value of end-treatment (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) for progression-free survival (PFS) and patient outcomes in follicular lymphoma (FL).
- To identify potential predictive factors for PFS and patient outcome in FL patients post-treatment.

- Retrospective analysis of 91 FL patients (38 indolent, 53 aggressive) undergoing FDG PET/CT scans at end-treatment.
- Scans were analyzed for disease presence (positive/negative).
- Statistical analysis included univariate and multivariate analyses of FDG PET results, tumor grading, FLIPI score, disease stage, and number of relapses concerning PFS and patient outcome.

- End-treatment FDG PET/CT is a highly accurate predictor of PFS and patient outcome in FL, regardless of tumor grade.
- A positive FDG PET scan at end-treatment signifies a poorer prognosis.
- Patients with multiple relapses and a positive FDG PET scan have significantly shorter PFS.
