Exostosis: a donor site for autograft

Exostosis, a bony growth, can be used as autogenous bone for treating bone defects. This study shows successful bone regeneration in a jaw defect using exostosis graft.

- New bone formation was evident at the grafted site six months post-surgery.
- Histological and clinical evaluation revealed the newly formed bone possessed characteristics comparable to native bone.
- The exostosis graft successfully facilitated bone regeneration and defect closure.
Implications:
- Exostosis harvesting offers a viable alternative source for autogenous bone grafts.
- This technique may reduce donor site morbidity and increase graft availability.
- Further research can explore the broader application of exostosis grafts in treating various osseous defects.
