Signal transducer and activator of transcription-1 (STAT1) activity is reduced in papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). Lower STAT1 activity correlates with larger tumor size and BRAF mutations, suggesting its potential as a PTC biomarker.

- Tumor size (≥ 2 cm) and the T1799A BRAF mutation are clinicopathologic factors linked to diminished STAT1 activity.
- STAT1 activity may serve as a potential biomarker for predicting PTC progression.
