Summary

Oxygen-derived free radicals may not cause stunned myocardium in neonates undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Echocardiograms and cardiac enzyme tests in 16 neonates showed no simultaneous rise in lipid peroxides.
