Abstract:
Even though corticoid-induced diabetes is an important clinical finding, there is still a clear lack of investigations in this field. In the last decades research has been conducted on the molecular regulation of the major anti-inflammatory actions of glucocorticoids and their side effects. Currently, insulin still remains the best current management option available to prevent middle and long-term consequences of repeated hyperglycemias. Some therapeutic suggestions are discussed, especially with the type of corticosteroid given, remaining as pragmatic as possible to improve adherence. Our objective is to review the current literature on glucocorticoid-induced hyperglycemia and current treatment strategies.
