Summary

Superglue in the ear is rare. Acetone successfully removed superglue from a tympanic membrane, preserving its integrity in a case study.

  • Foreign body sensation in the ear is common, but superglue instillation is rare.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with superglue adhered to the tympanic membrane.
  • Symptoms persisted for five days before presentation.

Findings:

  • Superglue was successfully removed from the tympanic membrane using acetone.
  • The tympanic membrane's structural integrity was maintained post-removal.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a safe and effective method for managing superglue ear foreign bodies.
  • Acetone is a viable option for dissolving cyanoacrylate adhesives in the ear canal.
  • Preservation of the tympanic membrane is achievable with prompt and appropriate intervention.
