Problems of statistical analysis of rating scale scores in clinical studies

Abstract:
Conventional statistical analysis of rating scale scores in clinical studies are inefficient and may occasionally lead to erroneous conclusions. Analytical methods based on a mixture of distributions is proposed and illustrated with a computational example. Though the model is complex the analysis can be carried out easily using commonly available computer software packages.
