Insights
Idiopathic hematoma cases presented as epididymitis, resisting antibiotic treatment. Surgical removal of affected epididymides was necessary due to persistent symptoms and tumor concerns, highlighting diagnostic challenges.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Pathology
Background:
- Idiopathic hematoma is a rare condition.
- It can mimic other scrotal pathologies, including tumors.
- Epididymitis is a common differential diagnosis.
Purpose of the Study:
- To report the first cases of idiopathic hematoma.
- To discuss the clinical presentation and diagnostic challenges.
- To differentiate idiopathic hematoma from other epididymal conditions.
Main Methods:
- Case series reporting three patients.
- Clinical presentation and treatment outcomes documented.
- Histopathological examination of removed epididymides.
Main Results:
- Three cases of idiopathic hematoma of the epididymis are presented.
- Patients initially presented with epididymitis symptoms.
- Antibiotic therapy was ineffective, necessitating surgical intervention.
Conclusions:
- Idiopathic hematoma should be considered in cases of persistent epididymitis.
- Differential diagnosis is crucial, especially when malignancy is suspected.
- Surgical management may be required for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
Abstract:
Three cases of idiopathic hematoma are reported for the first time. The disease presented with clinical symptoms of epididymitis and was unsuccessfully treated with antibiotics. The persistence of the symptoms and the suspicion of tumor led to the removal of the lesioned epididymides. The etiology of these hematomas and their differential diagnosis in relation with other benign processes of the epididymis are discussed.
