Abstract:
Despite complex massive defects, reconstruction can be reliably undertaken with microvascular free tissue transfers. In a single stage, this technique permits restoration of composite tissue loss, restoration of function, and acceptable aesthetic results. When confronted with extensive tissue loss, a multidisciplinary team approach is optimal. The risk associated with sophisticated reconstructive procedures is justified when managing these patients. The success of these procedures allows a better quality of life by reestablishing function and maintaining acceptable aesthetic appearance.
