Summary

Caroli's disease, a bile duct condition, often involves stones. This study reports the first successful percutaneous choledocholithotomy using a choledochoscope to remove multiple stones in a patient with this rare condition.

Background:

  • Communicating cavernous ectasia of the intrahepatic bile ducts, known as Caroli's disease, is a rare congenital condition.
  • Caroli's disease is characterized by cystic dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts and is frequently associated with calculus formation.
  • Management of calculi in Caroli's disease can be challenging due to the abnormal biliary anatomy.

Observation:

  • A young adult patient diagnosed with Caroli's disease presented with multiple calculi in the intrahepatic bile ducts.
  • The patient underwent a percutaneous choledocholithotomy procedure.
  • A choledochoscope was utilized for visualization and stone removal.

Findings:

  • The percutaneous choledocholithotomy was successfully performed in the patient with Caroli's disease.
