Academic libraries are increasingly integrating mobile technologies to enhance user experience.
Health sciences libraries face unique challenges in providing access to digital resources and mobile devices.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess patron preferences for e-readers and tablets in a health sciences library.
To evaluate the usability and accessibility of mobile devices for accessing health information.
To inform collection development strategies for digital resources.

Main Methods:

Acquisition of 12 e-readers and 6 tablets for patron circulation.
Implementation of train-the-trainer sessions for librarians.
Cataloging devices and offering a two-week checkout period.
Preloading content and allowing user-downloaded applications.
Distribution of a ten-question survey to patrons upon device return.

Main Results:

Patron engagement with mobile technology in a library setting was assessed.
Data on device preferences and usage patterns were collected.
Insights into the utility of e-readers versus tablets for health sciences information were gathered.

Conclusions:

Understanding patron technology preferences is crucial for effective digital resource management.
