Abstract:
Overweight and obesity are risk factors for type 2 diabetes, and they also influence the overall prognosis. Almost 90 % of type 2 diabetic subjects are overweight and more than half are obese. After metformin, drugs affecting the incretin system offer a good choice for overweight and obese type 2 diabetic patients. An increase in body weight is not only a cosmetic issue but also affects the risk for complications. When choosing between different antidiabetic drugs attention should be paid to their effect on body weight.
