Abstract:
Superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) anastomosis is commonly used to prevent subsequent ischemic stroke in patients with hemodynamic compromise or to assist in the treatment of aneurysms. In this systematic review, we surveyed articles about surgical complications of STA-MCA anastomosis as comprehensively as possible. Since there are few serious complications with STA-MCA anastomosis, this procedure seems to be safe. However, even comparatively rare complications may cause permanent neurological deficits.
