[The natural course of psoriasis from infancy to adulthood]
Abstract:
Unraveling questions concerning the etiology of psoriasis is one of the most complex problems facing researchers today. Within the last few decades, significant advances have been made with regard to the biochemical, immunologic, and genetic aspects of many disorders that have a bearing on psoriasis. Recently, we have stressed two concepts concerning the pathogenesis of psoriasis: first, that psoriasis is a disease that involves the total area of the skin and second, that psychoneuro-immunological research may be of fundamental importance to psoriasis. We have related the impact of these two observations to the course of psoriasis from infancy through adulthood. In the latter part of this paper, we emphasized that teaching patients self-help techniques may reduce their psoriasis by preventing a wide range of skin injuries.
