Abstract:
Improving the prognosis for patients with cancer from the exocrine pancreas (PC) represents a challenge for health-care systems in the Western world. Vague and non-specific symptoms combined with rapid deterioration of the patients' condition often make diagnosis difficult. Multimodality therapy with a combination of surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy has improved the long-term survival of patients. Recent data suggest improved efficacy of aggressive chemotherapy. Multidisciplinary team management and research are essential in order to further improve the outcome of patients with PC.
