Effect of dutasteride on microvessel density in benign prostatic hyperplasia

Dutasteride treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) significantly reduced microvessel density (MVD) in the prostate's bladder neck. This finding suggests dutasteride may lower the risk of bleeding during prostate surgery.

- The dutasteride group (n=14) showed a significantly lower MVD at the bladder neck compared to the control group (p=0.018).
- Mean treatment duration in the dutasteride group was 7.07±2.46 weeks.
Conclusions:
- Dutasteride effectively reduces MVD in the bladder neck region of the prostate in BPH patients.
- This reduction in MVD may contribute to a decreased risk of perioperative prostatic urethral bleeding.
