Background:

Plastic and/or pediatric surgeons were surveyed regarding their preferred STSG donor site dressings and change frequency.

Data were collected from 26 participating surgical centers across France.

Main Results:

Alginate dressings (Algostéril®) are the most frequently used (17/26 centers), with 13/17 leaving them in place until complete healing.
Other reported dressings include paraffin gauze, lipidocolloides, Mepitel®, and Mepilex®.
No significant differences in dressing choice were observed between skin and scalp donor sites, or between adult and pediatric departments.

Conclusions:

Alginate dressings are favored due to ease of use, reduced manipulation (less pain), and moderate cost.
The lack of consensus highlights challenges practitioners face in selecting optimal STSG donor site dressings.
Further analysis of literature and clinical practice is needed to establish best therapeutic options for STSG donor sites.
