This study establishes normal echocardiography reference values for right ventricular function in a healthy Iranian population. These findings aid in standardizing the assessment of right ventricular (RV) function using tissue Doppler imaging.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Echocardiography
- Physiology
Background:
- Tissue Doppler imaging is standard for assessing left and right ventricular function.
- Normal reference values for right ventricular echocardiography parameters in the Iranian population are currently unknown.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine normal echocardiography reference values for right ventricular function in a healthy Iranian population.
- To establish standardized assessment criteria for RV function.
Main Methods:
- 187 healthy volunteers were enrolled.
- Subjects were selected based on medical history, physical examination, ECG, and echocardiography.
- Reference ranges for key echocardiography parameters were derived.
Main Results:
- Reference ranges (5th-95th percentile) were established for tricuspid E velocity, A velocity, E/A ratio, deceleration time, annular Sa velocity, Ea velocity, and E/Ea ratio.
- Differences in deceleration time, E/Ea ratio, and isovolumetric acceleration time (IVA) were noted between males and females.
- Adjusting for body surface area, age, and sex revealed no significant differences in most parameters across groups.
Conclusions:
- The study provides reference ranges for echocardiography parameters of right ventricular function.
- These ranges can help standardize the assessment of RV function, particularly with tissue Doppler imaging.
- While the sample size was not large, the data offers valuable insights for clinical practice.
