Summary

A giant 18 Kg ovarian cyst was surgically removed from a 16-year-old girl. Histopathology confirmed it as a benign mucinous cystadenoma, with a smooth post-operative recovery.

  • Laparotomy revealed a giant ovarian cyst measuring 45 x 32 x 28 cm and weighing 18 kg.
  • The cyst constituted nearly one-third of the patient's total body weight.
  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of mucinous cystadenoma.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the possibility of extremely large benign ovarian neoplasms in adolescents.
  • Surgical management of giant ovarian cysts requires careful planning and execution.
  • Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent complications and ensure favorable outcomes.
